Automate BEST is the working name of PPMA BEST, which was set up in 2014 for the training and financial support of apprentices of Automate UK member companies.

Working with industry leaders, we support the promotion of manufacturing and engineering apprenticeship programmes. We also offer resources and support to Automate UK members embarking on the apprenticeship journey.

  • There’s been a 47.6% decrease in level 2 engineering-related apprenticeships since 2017/18.
  • Females account for only 15.7% of all engineering-related apprenticeship starts, compared to 51.2% across all subject areas.
  • People from ethnic minority backgrounds only account for 13.7% of all engineering-related apprenticeship starts.
