Automate BEST has introduced a range of initiatives in partnership with UK Universities to support students pursuing manufacturing and engineering careers.
The Grant Jamieson Award is to be presented to an outstanding individual who has shown interest and potential in graduate engineering careers of relevance to Automate UK member businesses. The additional financial support will help this individual in the pursuit of their engineering career.
To be eligible, a student must be in year 11, be studying at a UK post-16 educational institution, or working as an apprentice at an Automate UK member company. Nominations are accepted from all schools, post-16 educational institutions, and Automate UK members.

The Grant Jamieson Award is an annual scholarship to be made in the memory of a past chair of the PPMA who sadly passed away recently. Grant Jamieson was a successful business leader, a talented engineer and former apprentice himself. His passion for the subject extended to working with local education and supporting young engineers at the start of their careers. The Grant Jamieson Engineering Scholarship was officially launched in December 2021.
Each year we invite nominations for a grant of up to £5,000 to be awarded to "an outstanding individual who has shown both interest and potential in a field of engineering relevant to Automate UK member businesses and, for whom, additional financial support will help them to pursue their engineering career.".
One source of nominations is “Colleges or Universities annually nominated by Automate BEST who have identified an exceptional student through educational achievement and self-generated engineering projects who, whilst capable of progressing further, may not have the financial support to continue.”
The deadline for nominations is the end of July 2024.
