Kreyenborg’s infrared drying (IRD) system heats from the core, says new UK agent Holmach, to deliver decontamination of up to 5-log on items as varied as nuts, seeds, herbs and flour.
The German company’s FoodSafety-IRD technology offers efficient and sustainable continuous pasteurisation, sterilisation, roasting, toasting, drying and coating, it says. Other bulk products and ingredients to benefit from the system include spices, mushrooms and chillis.
Holmach, which already supplies multiple thermal processing options, points out that the system does not rely on the consumption of gas or the use of steam. Without condensate forming, it says, this advanced technology is able to decontaminate while preserving organoleptic properties. Continuous mixing and precise control over temperature and humidity parameters are said to ensure a homogenous process that retains and controls the appearance, taste and texture of the finished product, including volatile oil and flavour content.
Chris Holland, managing director of Holmach, says the company is delighted to be working with Kreyenborg. “Their innovative technology aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing cutting-edge, sustainable solutions to the food industry,” he states. “By combining Kreyenborg's innovations with our extensive thermal processing experience, we can offer our customers even more advanced and efficient solutions to enable them to meet the increasing demands of UK consumers and retailers."
The use of 100% electric power, which can often be obtained from renewable energy sources, means that manufacturers are more able to drastically reduce and even avoid CO2 emissions, the company adds.
This collaboration will, it says, further enable food manufacturers to meet the growing demand for high-quality, minimally-processed, and sustainable food products.
