Italy’s Zilli & Bellini creates a controlled environment to synchronise filling with the closing stage, in a setup that is ideal for chill-chain items such as juices and for other products.
According to area sales manager Stefano Zilli, the ultraclean monobloc is an integrated system which combines the different phases in a controlled environment, using laminar flow to generate overpressure of sterile air. Operator control is via an interactive touch screen panel.
“A system of high-efficiency filters introduces sterile air into the machine,” he says. “After the filling phase the containers are moved inside a synchronised monobloc without any spillage of product before or during the closing phase.”
As Zilli emphasises, installing a monobloc instead of standalone machines allows the customer to save space inside the factory. As well as items destined for the chill-chain, the system could be suitable for special products such as low-fat mayonnaise.
Containers and caps are sanitised by a process that uses first a sterilisation solution with peracetic acid, then they are rinsed with sterile water. Peroxide treatments are also possible, says Zilli.
The entire environment is insulated and controlled, the company stresses. Transport systems are sanitised “continuously”, it says, and a flow of sterile air creates barriers at the container infeed and outfeed.
Zilli & Bellini also offers clean-in-place (CIP) options with the equipment. “We have a system for the automatic cleaning of the monobloc, where the operator is never involved, even for the cleaning of critical parts like valves and pistons,” Zilli says.
Zilli & Bellini says it pursues an R&D strategy across different types of food product, and has systems able to clean, fill and close glass, plastics and metal containers.
